Promens Deeside (UK) have been nominated and awarded the supplier of the year to Unilever UK and Russia, for the revolutionary “upside-down” deodorant roll-on developed in close cooperation between Promens Packaging and Unilever HPC.

The product was launched in 2008 and has since turned the deodorant market on its head by this new ‘upside-down’ roll-on design.  The products are ‘Gender Specific’ designed to be eye catching, ergonomic and user-friendly whilst making the application of deodorant a more efficient and pleasurable task through their consideration of the different grips used by men and women. In fact the male pack is the first ever roll on design made specifically for men. The distinctive look has ensured the new packs command a strong position on the ‘shelves‘ with a more slanted front that offers improved brand visibility at point of sale.

The new pack responds to consumer’s frustrations with traditional roll-on designs such as the uneven application, the need to shake the pack to start the ball rolling, the ball dragging across the underarm skin because the contents falls to the bottom on application and the need to turn the pack on its head to get to the last drop.

The ‘upside-down’ roll-on features a one-way valve enabling it to be stood on its head. This ensures that the ball is always wet, whilst preventing leakage.  Therefore the consumer is able to benefit from maximum use of the product contents and the consistent dosage supplied by the pack which works towards a smoother application.

The new design boasts 4 patents and as well as superior functionality, the pack also uses less plastic than conventional roll-ons.

All of Unilever’s deodorant brands will solely exist in the new design. These include Lynx, Dove, Rexona, Sure and Axe.

“Unilever’s plants in the UK and Russia supply all of Europe and Russia with deodorants. Promens  Deeside are one of 26 suppliers in the Unilever deodorants category and to be chosen as the supplier of the year after such a short period of time working together is a tremendous achievement and a credit to our team” says Clive Saunders, Operations Director Promens Deeside.
